12/12/2011(more about recording)
i wanted to take the time to briefly discuss the first track that has been recorded so far,(title withheld)    in my honest opinion its a bit removed from the average bland, boring and often generic, fake sound you hear with jam bands or standard folk music. here instead we have a sharply de-tuned acoustic guitar that you think will serve as the template for the song but oh no my friends...not in my music, your not going to hear the same old flat, one dimensional sound that is all to often heard in rock music. Instead each measure is accented on the downstrum in the right channel and then again with a completely different guitar on the upstrum in the left channel. That just covers the guitar work that has gone into this track. there are also 2 separate vocal tracks hidden in both left/right channels which are reversed. I shall never reveal what is being said but they deal with the arrogance, ignorance and naivety of some people i know. As for the actual vocal track itself? Well, its a straight forward rock vocal however i opted to sing about my own arrogance, ignorance and naivety as well as delving just a tiny bit into my past addictions and my sometimes difficulty in expressing love to those closest to me.(deeply personal lyrics) as for the glue, the backbone, the core of the song...we have the strongly earthy and organic tonal combination of hand drums coupled with a deep smooth sounding bass  that is similar in style to late 70s synth new wave but without that "treble pop sound" associated with synth bass because its not played in a synth bass style. you would think that should be enough but we just had to put a delicate sounding piano piece in there. a very simple "nothing up my sleeves"sounding piece...very brittle and petite sounding and we again turn to a stereo panning effect swirling between all three channels from right-center-left which some how gives an almost 1930's/40's calliope sound. there is more mixing and mastering and editing to be done tomorrow for this first track but i dont think we intend on over polishing the pieces,we want to be able to capture the raw mood of each song without it sounding harsh of difficult to listen to. My personal goal is make a record that invites the listener in and pours them a cup of tea and says "here, let your ears and your mind relax and enjoy this, were going to be right at your side the whole time so your not alone"   thank you very kindly for taking the time to read this my friends and soon i will try to post finished songs right here on this blog. i look forward to reading your comments here on this "blog"and of course for every positive comment i expect negative once as well. i promise i take criticism constructively.

peace:

had my first 3 hours of professional recording studio time today. working on 2 songs at the moment. i plan on releasing an album so good and intricate that not only the music but the fact that the record itself is so secretive that when people hear it they are going to be completely shocked. i guess ive let the cat out of the bag here but not really because nobody knows what is in store for them when im done with the album...its a very powerful feeling...of course i have given hints but most people have missed them......all shall be revealed in due time!

sadly i have not passed the kidney stones i was diagnosed with last week. I can honestly say it is the worst pain ive ever felt in my life. luckily my doctor isnt stingy with the pain medications and gave 90 cnt percocet which is helping me deal with the pain. anyways...some of you might know that im involved with a nice radiohead forum called www.skipdivided.com/forum please go there and get involved. its always fun to speculate about radiohead and with the upcoming tour there is lots to discuss. now onto a random thought. If your lucky enough in this day and age to have well functioning family make sure you enjoy every second of it. there is nothing like being able to enjoy spending quality time with your family, sharing your thoughts together openly and even you disagree with each other its ok. if there is one thing i have learned in the 35 years of my life its that family is extremely important. Even if you have a family that doesn't get along all that well, the least you can do as a person is try, trust me...it will get noticed.
